I could tell by the look on her face that Mum was pretty proud of herself, and I have to admit that I was too. Together we had managed to pull off the ultimate behind-back pest inspection, the rest of the family were none the wiser. My uncle has lived alone for as long as I’ve known him, my Mum refers to him as the sad and lonely one. I have always tried to spent as much of time as I could spare with my uncle, I couldn’t imagine what it would feel like to be the outcast of the family. That was how I noticed the signs of termites in the first place. I was over at my uncle’s place one afternoon and noticed the floorboards were really rickety. When I got down on my knees to look closer I could see that the floor boards being eaten away by wood pests.
Mum quickly arranged for a local company to conduct a secret termite inspection, Dandenong has a bad reputation for wood ants. I managed to convince my uncle to go and see a move for the afternoon while the inspection took place. When he got home we had a bbq planned at my house with the rest of the family. Mother had planned everything perfectly, and it had worked even better than expected. While my uncle was enjoying some time with the family at our house, the pest inspectors were in action. I heard good things about the barbecue lunch that Dad had cooked and rave reviews about the salads Mum had put together.
It was a perfect sunny day, unfortunately I was busy at my uncle’s house while the pest inspection company in Dandenong were doing their thing. There was definitely signs of past termite damage but they didn’t appear to be still in the floor or walls which was a relief. After the termite guards were put in place we all jumped in our own cars and headed back to the family gathering. Job well done. A+ day.
