I love this time of year. The weather is getting frosty and there’s less pressure to socialise because it’s so dark and cold. There’s nothing I love more than coming home after a hard day of work and wrapping myself in a blanket for five hours before I go to bed. Even when I’m at work, I love being warm and toasty with the heater on and then looking at the window frosting outside. There’s something comforting about being warm and sheltered when it’s cold outside… it’s as if it’s a basic human right or something.
In summer I tend to find myself daydreaming about the colder months. I have always been a very warm-blooded person and I tend to get uncomfortably hot in summer. Life just doesn’t seem to have the same glow in summer as it does in winter. Even when I’m at work in summer, the windows that I love staring out of in winter don’t have the same appeal. The office tinting in Melbourne CBD offices is only truly beautiful in winter when the sun is low and the window sparkles.
If you can’t already tell, anything that I experience in winter is more favourably viewed than anything I experience in summer. I’ve always been this way and some people have genuinely gotten annoyed at my preference for winter and my prejudice towards other months. My reaction is always the same: “Have you looked out the office windows during winter?” I say. People nod. They have and they know just how beautiful the windows look in the colder months.
The windows are just one example of why everything is better in winter. I will be an advocate for the beauty of winter for the rest of my life. I will also be an advocate for not having to socialise every night of the week. Thank you winter for giving me that. It is truly appreciated.
